Here is the second part of the project: opening a new doorway to unite what was formerly two units into one unit a little better.
Our contractor removed the wainscotting and wall trim to fit the new hallway frame in place. We opted not to hang a door here for several reasons: the area is pretty high-traffic, the hallway behind it is too narrow to accept a door swinging inwards, while an outward swinging door would have to clear a weird heating grate on the floor to the left of this opening. Less is more, in this case.
